Keep transmission temperatures under control in your 2022+ Toyota Tundra 3.4L Twin Turbo with the BMS Heavy-Duty High-Capacity Transmission Oil Cooler from Burger Motorsports. Designed specifically for the third-generation Tundra, this upgraded air-to-transmission-fluid cooler adds substantial cooling capacity for trucks exposed to towing, hauling, off-road driving, increased power levels, or high ambient temperatures.
Heat is one of the biggest enemies of an automatic transmission. Sustained loads from towing, heavy payloads, off-road driving, steep grades, or performance modifications can increase transmission-fluid temperatures and place additional thermal stress on the fluid and transmission components. The BMS cooler provides an additional dedicated heat exchanger to help dissipate this excess heat and maintain more stable transmission-fluid temperatures during demanding operation.
The BMS system uses a large front-mounted air-to-ATF cooling core positioned inside the front bumper, where existing openings provide airflow across the cooler. This dedicated air-to-fluid design helps remove transmission heat directly through ambient airflow rather than adding that thermal load to the engine coolant circuit. The result is improved heat management and more consistent transmission performance under sustained load.
BMS designed this system as a plug-and-play installation specifically for the 2022+ Tundra. The kit includes a custom laser-cut aluminum mounting bracket, heavy-duty -10AN PTFE stainless-steel/nylon braided hoses, billet adapters, aluminum fittings, and the necessary installation hardware. BMS states that installation does not require removal of the front of the truck, simplifying installation compared with more invasive transmission cooler upgrades.
Another advantage is the additional transmission-fluid capacity created by the system. BMS states that the cooler increases total ATF capacity by approximately one quart. The additional fluid volume, combined with the larger cooling core, helps slow temperature rise, stabilize temperatures for longer periods, and reduce thermal stress on the transmission fluid during extended heavy use.
For Tundra owners who regularly tow, haul, off-road, drive in hot climates, or run higher-than-stock power levels, the BMS Transmission Oil Cooler provides a purpose-built cooling solution designed to help protect the transmission while supporting more consistent performance.

Why Upgrade the Transmission Cooler?
Automatic transmission fluid performs several critical jobs, including lubrication, hydraulic operation, and heat management. When the transmission is subjected to sustained heavy loads, fluid temperatures can increase significantly.
Common situations that can increase transmission heat include:
-
Towing trailers
-
Heavy hauling
-
Long uphill grades
-
Slow-speed off-road driving
-
Sand and desert driving
-
High ambient temperatures
-
Increased engine power and torque
-
Performance tuning
By adding a large dedicated air-to-ATF heat exchanger and additional fluid capacity, the BMS system is designed to help manage that heat before temperatures become excessive.
Increased Transmission Fluid Capacity
The BMS cooler system increases the Tundra's transmission-fluid capacity by approximately one quart.
The additional fluid volume provides greater thermal capacity, meaning more energy is required to raise the overall temperature of the transmission fluid. Combined with the additional cooling surface area, this helps:
-
Slow transmission-fluid temperature rise
-
Maintain more stable temperatures during extended loads
-
Reduce thermal stress on ATF
-
Improve cooling recovery
-
Support consistent transmission performance
