Improve rear clearance and simplify the factory exhaust routing on your 2024+ Toyota Tacoma with the COBB High Clearance Exhaust Turndown. Designed specifically for the fourth-generation Tacoma, this compact exhaust turndown replaces the long factory tailpipe section that routes over the rear axle and exits behind the rear wheel. By shortening the exhaust after the muffler, COBB removes unnecessary tubing and weight from behind the rear axle while providing substantially better clearance for off-road driving.
On non-Trailhunter Tacoma models, the factory exhaust routing extends up and over the rear axle before continuing toward the passenger-side rear of the truck. That configuration works well for normal street use, but the long tailpipe can become a liability on trucks used on rocky trails, steep departures, and technical terrain. The COBB turndown replaces this section with a much shorter design that terminates underneath the truck, keeping the exhaust system tucked higher and farther away from potential trail obstacles.
Construction starts with a cast 304L stainless-steel 2-bolt flange. COBB integrates a counter-bore and raised collar into the casting, which moves the weld farther away from the flange's mating surface. This helps prevent distortion during manufacturing while creating a smooth transition from the flange into the exhaust tubing.
From the flange, the turndown uses 3-inch mandrel-bent 304L stainless-steel tubing. The corrosion-resistant stainless construction is designed to provide long service life even when exposed to water, mud, road salt, and demanding off-road environments. The end of the turndown incorporates a slash-cut outlet to maximize available ground clearance.
COBB also incorporates an integrated exhaust hanger, allowing the turndown to mount securely using the vehicle's existing exhaust support system. Installation reuses the factory exhaust gasket and hardware, making this a straightforward bolt-on modification without requiring fabrication or permanent modification to the factory exhaust system.
Importantly, the High Clearance Exhaust Turndown is designed to improve clearance without changing the Tacoma's exhaust note. This makes it an excellent option for owners who want the practical benefits of a high-clearance exhaust exit without adding additional exhaust volume or drone.
COBB confirms fitment across both conventional i-FORCE and i-FORCE MAX hybrid Tacoma applications, as well as automatic- and manual-transmission configurations. Current COBB application data includes 2024, 2025, and 2026 Tacoma models.

High-Clearance Design
The primary purpose of the COBB turndown is simple: remove the unnecessary exhaust tubing hanging behind the rear axle and improve clearance for off-road use.
The factory Tacoma tailpipe routes over the rear axle and continues toward the side of the truck behind the rear wheel. COBB replaces that long section with a compact turndown that keeps the exhaust tucked underneath the vehicle.
This design can be especially beneficial for Tacomas used for:
-
Rock crawling
-
Technical trail driving
-
Overlanding
-
Desert travel
-
Steep approach/departure terrain
-
Trucks equipped with aftermarket rear bumpers
304L Stainless-Steel Construction
COBB manufactures the turndown from 304L stainless steel for excellent durability and corrosion resistance.
The main tubing measures 3 inches in diameter and is mandrel bent to maintain a smooth transition through the bend. A slash-cut outlet completes the system while maximizing ground clearance.
Cast Stainless-Steel Flange
Rather than using a basic flat flange welded directly to the tubing, COBB developed a cast stainless-steel 2-bolt flange with an integrated counter-bore and raised collar.
This design moves the weld farther away from the actual mating surface, helping prevent heat-related warping during assembly while providing a smoother transition into the 3-inch tubing.
No Change in Exhaust Note
One important advantage for daily-driven Tacoma owners is that this modification is not intended to make the truck louder.
COBB specifically lists “No Change In Exhaust Note” as a feature of the High Clearance Exhaust Turndown. This allows owners to gain additional trail clearance without converting the truck to a louder aftermarket exhaust system.
Installation
The COBB High Clearance Exhaust Turndown is designed as a straightforward bolt-on modification.
The system:
-
Uses the factory exhaust connection
-
Reuses the factory gasket
-
Reuses the factory mounting hardware
-
Includes an integrated exhaust hanger
-
Does not require an aftermarket cat-back exhaust
